Modern. Low Maintenance. Affordable. Unique. What’s not to love?
Cement boards, often referred to as “Hardie Boards” (after a popular manufacturer) have been around for a while as a house siding alternative, made up of 90% sand and cement. We love it on outdoor fences. Dattola Designs has installed a few Cement Board fences recently and we decided to use it on our own yard for a couple of reasons;
- Price: It is WAY cheaper than a wood fence (especially with the rising cost of lumber)
- Style: It’s different and modern looking. We like different & we LOVE mid-century modern
- Longevity: It wears much longer than a traditional wood fence.
- Fire Resistance: The last local wild fire came within 25 yards of our house, so fire resistance is important!
We chose to add a panel of wood to the top of our fence to bring in some warmth; with Hardie Board fence is it can come across too sterile.
First Step: Weld frame and attach wood panels
BACK SIDE OF FENCE: (We decided to go really subtle on the paint color…)
